Project Background
Kenmore State High School has been awarded funding through the NAB Schools First Program for the project Looking Forward, Looking Back. This awards program recognises and rewards outstanding school-community partnerships that help improve educational outcomes for students.
The project Looking Forward, Looking Back, aims to gather, organise and publically display information regarding the environmental and historical past of Kenmore and surrounding areas. The project is being conducted in partnership with Pullenvale Environmental Education Centre and Smith Farm. As this is a school- community project, we are hoping to gain the support and involvement of many organisations, groups and individuals within Kenmore and surrounding areas.
Educational Outcomes for Students
The information will be gathered by Year 9 students participating in the Information Communication Education (ICE) Program at Kenmore State High School. The project which encompasses the curriculum areas of Science and Study of Society and Environment (SOSE) will represent a major component of the student’s work in these subjects for 2011.
Following the Community Day, the students will interpret, compile and document the information collected during their interviews. The research gathered from all students involved in the project will then be compiled and presented in the form of a community-accessible web site. It is our intention to retain and grow this web site over the years as a school-community resource.
